What is LFBI's policy on Artificial Intelligence and Why?

by Registrar @LFBI -

Hello Students,

We know that AI is suddenly everywhere and is capable of doing amazing things. We also know that universities and workplaces have different policies and views on how it can and should be used. We wanted to take some time to remind you of our policy as a school so that there is no confusion.

ChatGPT or other generative AI softwares are not permitted in the content development of any assignment in the Living Faith Bible Institute. Utilizing AI software to generate ideas or content in order to pass them off as one’s own will be considered analogous to plagiarism and will be adjudicated as such by the board of formal review. All written assignments are reviewed through digital analysis and if an assignment has been found to have utilized AI, students will then be subject to any number of potential consequences, including: receiving an F for the course, academic probation, suspension or expulsion.

We ask that you take this as seriously as we do.

If you are curious about why we are so concerned about how AI impacts the integrity of our instruction or even the power of our ministry, read Pastor Brandon Briscoe's article "Does Artificial Intelligence Have a Place in Ministry". If you want to get more help with writing in order to avoid using AI or plagiarizing, consider taking Freshman Orientation or visit our online "Writing Helps" on myLFBI.

Thank you,

LFBI Staff

What is the "Design of Emphasis"?

by Registrar @LFBI -

Hello Students,

Many LFBI students learn about this way too late, so we want to direct your attention now so you can plan your coursework accordingly. As you likely already know, every student needs 60 credit hours to complete the Associate of Divinity degree: 5-7 credits of Foundations, 24 credits of Bible Essentials, 26 credits of Leadership Prep, and 5-7 credits of Electives.

What many students don't know is that if you emphasize one category of Elective courses you can specialize your degree. You can choose from Ministry Leadership, Missiology, Biblical Studies, Theology & History or Biblical Counseling. If you complete all of the courses listed in each category alongside your Associate of Divinity, you will receive a "Design of Emphasis" award stating that LFBI recognizes you as proficient in your content area. Another way of thinking about it is that it is like graduating with a "major". It's not required, but it does give you an opportunity to dig deep on the subject area you are most interested in.

If you have questions about the "Design of Emphasis" check out the Program of Study page on our website and/or contact our Advisory Dept.

Ep. 231: Spiritual Growth in Seasons of Uncertainty & Building Business Better

by Registrar @LFBI -

Today we're diving into a topic that hits home for so many of us, how to follow God through difficult seasons of life. Whether it's unexpected loss, confusion about the future, or prolonged periods of uncertainty, we all face moments when the path forward seems unclear. But what does it mean to remain faithful when the road gets hard?

Joining us is Eric Phillips, an instructor in Living Faith Bible Institute, and someone whose personal journey has recently taken a surprising and challenging turn over the last few months. Just after being ordained at Midtown Baptist Temple, Eric was laid off from his secular job – a major pivot that brought with it a lot of unknowns and some difficulties. But through all of that Eric has seen God's faithfulness and has learned valuable lessons that we believe will strengthen and encourage you today.

Ep 230: Dealing with Sexual Sin in the Church & the Road to Recovery

by Registrar @LFBI -

A crucial and often uncomfortable topic that touches the heart of many individuals and churches alike, is that of sexual sin and its impact on the Body of Christ. There is no doubt that there is something particularly devastating when one hears that a church friend, a confidante, or leader in the church has committed sexual sin. It is an offense to Christ and a violation of trust. For the church, it feels like the ultimate act of hypocrisy.

How does a person recover from this kind of sin? Is it possible to find victory again? How should the church respond to recover those people who have fallen in this way? How do we promote faith within the church family despite the feelings of betrayal that they have?

In today's episode, we will explore the biblical subject of sexual sin, fornication, and its ramifications on the church. We will also discuss what it looks like to break free from sexual sin and find the road to recovery. To have this conversation, we have invited Dan Reneau, Pastor of Living Faith Lee’s Summit and a professor of Biblical Studies at Living Faith Bible Institute.
